Verdict: 4/5⭐️ - *English* I have seen many books from this author but have never read the books. Until this book was left behind by a passenger on one of my flights, then I thought I'd get started! Best choice ever!
The book is written as a point of view, through the eyes of a woman, the main character. The rest of the characters are in roles that also have their own story in the main character's story. I find the character of the main character a bit naive in some areas and sometimes super good, but that is what makes the story exciting!
I really like the setting of the story that it just takes place in someone's life in a homely atmosphere and all kinds of things happen because of all kinds of choices she makes.
The writer's style is a literary thriller that I sometimes have to get used to because it is a different kind of writing style than a normal thriller book. But nevertheless it is very well written and all exciting aspects are covered.
I didn't see the plot twist coming even though it was actually obvious. But that was the exciting thing about the book, that in the end you just don't expect it from characters.
The intrigue and relationships are so great in this book, very dramatic and intriguing with all the characters that they are still connected. There is so much happening in this book that it is so exciting that you just don't want to put the book down.
I really enjoyed this exciting book! Nicci French's books are certainly worthy of a TBR list. And I will definitely read another book by this author!
*Dutch* Ik heb al veel boeken van deze schrijver voorbij zien komen maar nog nooit gelezen. Tot dat dit boek was achtergelaten door een passagier op een van m’n vluchten, toen dacht ik laat ik er eens aan beginnen! Beste keuze ooit!
Het boek wordt als een point of view geschreven, door de ogen van een vrouw, de hoofdpersoon. De rest van de karakters zijn bij rollen die ook een eigen verhaal in het verhaal van de hoofdpersoon hebben. De karakter van de hoofdpersoon vind ik op sommige vlakken wel beetje naïef en soms ook super goed maar dat maakt juist het verhaal spannend!
De setting van het verhaal vind ik erg mooi dat het gewoon afspeelt in het leven van iemand in huiselijke sferen en door allerlei keuzes die ze maakt gebeuren er allerlei dingen.
De schrijvers stijl is een literaire thriller waar ik soms wel aan moet wennen want het is een andere soort schrijf stijl dan een normale thriller boek. Maar desondanks is het erg goed geschreven en alle spannende aspecten komen aanbod.
De plottwist zag ik niet aankomen terwijl het eigenlijk voor de hand liggend was. Maar dat was het spannende aan het boek, dat je het uiteindelijk gewoon niet verwacht van personages.
De intriges en relaties zijn zo groot in dit boek, erg dramatisch en intriges met alle personages dat ze toch aan elkaar verbonden zijn. Er gebeurd zoveel in dit boek dat het zo spannend is dat je het boek gewoon niet wilt weg leggen.
Ik heb erg genoten van dit spannende boek! De boeken van Nicci French zijn zeker een TBR lijst waardig. En ik zal zeker een ander boek van deze schrijver lezen!
