Verdict: 5/5 ⭐️- *English* I was actually going to read the book during my vacation, but we had too many activities to do. When I got home I had to go straight to work and I didn't get around to it anymore. On top of that, I couldn't get the hang of the unnecessary stress and irregular rhythm of my work, so I had to put reading aside for a while. But here we are FINALLY with the review.
I had to read half of this book twice, as I took a break for myself at some point. But boy, what an exciting book this was! From start to finish, this book is hard to put down. Truly a page turner.
How the characters are described is so different but so good! They all have a different background where they come from. And what they have experienced in life. What I did find is that the fight, flight or freeze is described for each person. How the perpetrator was described and what he had experienced that made him that way. The 2 'detectives' who were looking for the perpetrator each have their own story that was very different from each other but still fit together somehow.
The setting where it all takes place and where the perpetrator keeps his victims/hostages is grisly but on the other hand very well conceived.
The writing style is very good! The book draws you into the story. It also becomes more exciting as the chapters go.
I didn't think there was really a plot twist in the book, maybe there was, but then I completely overlooked it. I thought the ending was a plot twist that was so well written that I was shocked at what happened.
The relationships between the 'detectives', yes they had to get used to each other, but everyone has that when you get to know someone's news. The victims/hostages built a bond with each other, but that was necessary if you were in a situation like theirs. And the perpetrator gosh! What a story about his past! It all makes sense when you get into his head, why he is able to do that.
This book could easily be made into a movie! YES I liked the book that much! Definitely worthy of a TBR list!
*Dutch* Ik zou het boek eigenlijk lezen tijdens de vakantie alleen we hadden te veel activiteiten te doen. Thuis gekomen moest ik gelijk aan het werk en kwam ik er niet meer aan toe. Daar boven op kreeg ik de niet nodigde stress en onregelmatige ritme van mijn werk niet onder de knie dus moest ik het lezen even naast mij neer leggen. Maar hier zijn we dan EINDELIJK met de review.
Ik heb dit boek voor de helft 2x moeten lezen, aangezien ik er opgegeven moment even een pauze inlaste voor mij zelf. Maar jeetje wat een spannend boek was dit zeg! Van begin tot einde, dit boek is moeilijk om neer te leggen. Echt een page turner.
Hoe de karakters worden beschreven is zo verschillend maar zo goed! Allemaal een ander achtergrond waar ze vandaan komen. En wat ze hebben meegemaakt in het leven. Wat ik wel vond is dat de fight, flight or freeze beschreven word bij elk persoon. Hoe de dader beschreven werd en wat die had meegemaakt, waardoor die zo is geworden. De 2 ‘rechercheurs’ die opzoek waren naar de dader hebben elk ook een eigen verhaal die heel apart van elkaar waren maar toch op de een of andere manier bij elkaar pasten.
De setting waar het zich allemaal afspeelt en waar de dader zijn slachtoffers/gegijzelden houdt is luguber maar aan de andere kant erg goed bedacht.
De schrijfstijl is erg goed! Je wordt in het boek meegetrokken het verhaal in. Het wordt ook spannender naar mate de hoofdstukken.
Ik vond dat er niet echt een plottwist in het boek zat, misschien wel hoor maar dan heb ik het helemaal over het hoofd gelezen. Het einde vond ik wel een plottwist wat zo goedgeschreven was dat ik er wel van schrok wat er allemaal gebeurde.
De relaties tussen de ‘rechercheurs’, ja ze moesten aan elkaar wennen maar dat heeft iedereen wel als je iemands nieuws leert kennen. De slachtoffers/gegijzelden bouwden een band met elkaar op maar dat moest wel als je in zo’n situatie als die van hun zou zitten. En de dader jeetje! Wat een verhaal over zijn verleden! Het is ook allemaal logisch als je in z’n hoofd kruipt, waarom hij in staat is om dat te doen.
Dit boek kan zo verfilmd worden! Zo goed vond ik het boek! Zeker een TBR lijst waardig!
